Leaving Bang Ko Taep Sak Temple, we continued our journey along the Mae Klong River. One advantage of traveling by boat instead of car is the opportunity to observe the daily lives of the people living along the riverbanks. This is one of the charms of this waterway. The wide river is lined with houses, temples, and monasteries on both sides.

An ancient house stands firm against the sun, wind, and strong waves as the water rises.

The temple we are about to visit is called Wat Bang Kaen Noi, which has no relation to Bang Khae near Phetkasem Road. Don't get confused. As the boat docks, we disembark. What we see is the castle-like spire of the Viman, which enshrines the relics of the Lord Buddha, guarded by the four Lokapalas.

The sacred relics of the Buddha are enshrined on a pedestal, surrounded by disciples and guarded by deities from all four directions.

The Four Guardians of the Cardinal Directions

We chose to walk to the wooden kuti, which is over 138 years old. It has been renovated to its original condition. On the kuti, there are 28 Buddha statues, dressed in royal attire, known as "Phra Phuttha Chao Song Krueng." There are also Buddha statues carved from the stone of the chedi, Luang Pho Mongkolratanmuni, a wax figure of Luang Pu Thuat, and a wax figure of Somdet Phutthachan (Toh Prommarangsi).

Visitors who wish to pay respects to the sacred objects must dress modestly. Below, adjacent to the main building, is the kuti of Luang Pho Phraen, which was built after his passing, following his instructions. It houses his enshrined remains.

Seven-panel Golden Teakwood Ubosot

"Bang Kaenoy Temple" in Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province, is another beautiful temple in the province. It was built by Khunying Chui Vongsaroj in 1868. Originally, the ordination hall of Bang Kaenoy Temple was built on a bamboo raft tied to a Bodhi tree on the bank of the Mae Klong River.

The temple has been extensively restored and boasts numerous attractions, including the intricately carved teakwood walls of the ordination hall. These walls depict scenes from the life of Buddha, including his birth, enlightenment, and passing, as well as the ten Jataka tales. The exquisite carvings are the work of skilled artisans from Phetchaburi, renowned for their woodcarving expertise.

Phra Phutthasamut Sri Pichai Visutthimuni, a Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya posture.

The ubosot's floor is made of golden teakwood, 2 inches thick and 40-44 inches wide. Only 7 planks were used to cover the entire ubosot, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of woodcarving. Inside the ubosot, the main Buddha statue, Phra Phutthasamut Sri Phichai Wisutthimuni, is enshrined in the posture of subduing Mara. Behind the statue, there is a beautiful wood carving. On the left and right sides, small stupas containing relics are enshrined.

In addition, the temple also has volunteer tour guides (who are likely temple patrons) to provide information about the history and important things within the temple. It's time to leave Wat Bang Kaen Noi.
